What’s been making me happy: November

What’s been making me happy: November

Eleven months of the year down, summer is nigh, yet this last month has felt more autumnal than anything. It’s been a cool and wet spring, and despite Christmas now being just a few weeks away, because of the weather it still feels like we’ve got months to go. Despite that, I’m pretty organised for the festive season but I just don’t feel all that ‘Christmassy’ yet.

This month we’ve also seen COVID vaccination rates climb higher and higher in New South Wales, but the emergence of this new variant in the last few days brings with it a sense of anxiousness about what might be to come.

So all in all, a slightly strange month, but one that’s also brought with it some very lovely moment. This is what’s been making me smile this month…

What’s been making me happy: October

What’s been making me happy: October

Here we are, 10 months of the year down. It’s mid-spring, but to be honest it doesn’t actually feel spring’s begun. It just feels like winter’s been exceptionally long this year. Lucky I like coats and jumpers ;). This month seems to flying by. Perhaps it’s because we’re nearing the end of what’s been another topsy-turvy COVID dominated year, perhaps it’s just been because these last few weeks have busy for both Adam and I.

Needless to say though, there are always bright sparks amongst it all. This is what’s been making me smile this month…

What’s making me happy: August

What’s making me happy: August

August has turned into quite a month. It started with catch-ups with friends and exploring local parks. It’s ending with working from home and shopping for essentials only. The one week lockdown that was recently announced for regional New South Wales has turned into two and it’s anyone’s guess as to when restrictions will be lifted.

Despite the recent onslaught of statistics and information relating to this latest COVID outbreak on Australian’s eastern seaboard, I’m still finding little joys in the every day. Now more than ever, it feels like that’s important and should be celebrated.

This is what’s been making me smile this month…

What’s been making me happy: July

What’s been making me happy: July

Midwinter is upon us and it certainly feels like it. This month has been damp, cold and over the last few weeks the COVID situation in New South Wales feels like it’s gone from bad to worse. Deepest, darkest winter is certainly living up to expectations. On the flipside, the rain’s been good for the garden and local farmers; there’s been ample time for snuggly stories with Paul; and I’ve been able to wear my favourite jumpers on repeat. So there’s that – and a few other things too.

This is what’s been making me smile this month…

What’s been making me happy: June

What’s been making me happy: June

It’s been a bit of a month. Between my head-cold (which dragged on for around a fortnight) and Paul’s stay in hospital, June has felt a little underwhelming to be completely honest. The days are shortening rapidly and we’ve had a run of foggy, drizzly days , but I think that’s been a bit of a blessing. It’s encouraged recuperation and resting and I feel like I can confront these last few weeks of June with a renewed energy. Despite the stresses of the last few weeks, as always, there were still moments of joy.

This is what’s been making me smile this month…

What’s been making me happy: April

What’s been making me happy: April

April is possibly my favourite month of year, mainly on account of the weather. The mornings are now brisk, sometimes shrouded in light fog, but the days are clear and bright, and by mid afternoon gloriously warm. The countryside is green, the deciduous trees around town are starting to colour and there’s often the scent of wood smoke in the late afternoon, as people stoke their fires ready for the evening ahead. The temperatures, the vistas, the scents – it all make me feel incredibly content.

There are also a few other things that have also made me smile this month…

What’s making me happy: March

What’s making me happy: March

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking this last month. March 2020 signified the start of the global response to COVID-19 and what was to become months of not faring far from home. Now in March 2021 for us in Australia, life feels a lot different a year on. While some things are still of the table (international travel mainly), we are living pretty normally again. Domestic travel has resumed with gusto, most people are back working in their offices, and the use of hand sanitiser and using QR codes to ‘check in’ to businesses has become almost second nature.

For me this month has really felt like the start of new beginning. The start of this new life, where COVID exists, where the wheels have to keep turning. This is what’s been making me smile this month…
