Food, wine & friends: an autumn afternoon

Food, wine & friends: an autumn afternoon

Every March, nestled around the banks of the Wollundry Lagoon in the centre of the city, Wagga Wagga plays host to an annual food and wine festival.

It’s always been a regular on my social calendar and this year I was thrilled to be able to introduce Adam to a ‘Wagga’ event that I’d always enjoyed…

Little changes

Little changes

When I moved to England I quickly learnt that single use plastic bags were well on the way out. All big retailers in the U.K. are required by law to charge for that type of plastic bag.  Although it was never a big fee, it became something I was mindful of and I quickly purchased reusable carrier bags, one of which I ended up using on almost a daily basis. I became so attached to that one bag, it made its way back to Australia with me…

What I love about being back in Australia

What I love about being back in Australia

The other day while flipping through my diary to write myself a reminder I realised that Adam and I have been back in Australia for just over two months.  I was flabbergasted.  It feels like so much longer than that, probably because we’ve been slowly but surely doing jobs around the house and in the garden to transform both spaces into ‘our home’.

It also made me think about what I’m enjoying about my return to Australia…

Finding joy in the everyday

Finding joy in the everyday

Sometimes you just have ‘one of those weeks’.  For me, nothing bad has really happened, it’s just been a long week (literally – I’m on my seventh working day straight!) and I’ve had a challenging story taking up much of my time at work.

It’s left me feeling a little weighed down, but instead of getting angry or upset I’m trying to switch off outside of work hours to find the joy in everyday moments…

Boxes from England

Boxes from England

Last November Adam and I spent a few days sorting through all of English belongings, trying to work out what we wanted to bring back to Australia with us.  Although I hadn’t really acquired all that much, Adam still had a lot of household things that he’d left in Worcestershire, which we inherited back when we moved to England in 2016.

In the end we whittled it down to four big boxes and a suitcase.  Our English life packed up neatly. We farewelled our things and, at the time, found it hard to believe that when we’d be reunited with our stuff again, we’d back in Australia…

The community garden

The community garden

Up until the last decade or so the ‘community garden’ was a concept that was a little unheard of.  Sure the premise was easy enough to understand but communal garden beds seemed to be the stuff of hippy towns on the coast or progressive towns in far flung places.  Now they’re everywhere and to be honest it’s really, really nice.

The other weekend I had the pleasure of spending a few hours in Wagga Wagga’s community garden – a place I’d driven past dozen of times but never found the time to visit…

Bush galore

Bush galore

The Great British institution of going for a ‘Sunday walk’ was one of those cultural norms that I wholeheartedly embraced when I was living in England. If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know I’m an avid fan of a good old ramble and since I’ve returned to Australia, it’s something I’ve been meaning to continue.

Wagga Wagga was blessed with an exceptionally mild summer’s weekend not that long ago, so Adam and I decided to take advantage of the sub 30 degree celsius weather and go for a walk…

Hiding from the heat

Hiding from the heat

It’s been an absolute scorcher in south-eastern Australia over the last few days. Wagga Wagga hit 40 + degrees on both Saturday and Sunday.  I haven’t experienced that sort of warmth since the summer of 2015/2016, so I really felt it!

It always amazes me that while one part of the world can be experiencing extreme heat, others can be gripped in the midst of extreme cold (east cold of the United States and Canada, I’m thinking of you!) In the days leading up to the weekend my Instagram feed was full of northern hemisphere dwellers preparing for a cozy weekend.

While they were channelling hygge in the traditional sense, I thought I’d go about creating ‘summer hygge’…

A new year, a new outlook

A new year, a new outlook

Hello 2018!

It’s a new year and with it comes new goals, expectations and plans. For me it’ll be about readjusting to life after a year abroad, preparing for my upcoming nuptials, creating a home that reflects both my fiancé and I, and discovering and revisiting new and old places in south-western New South Wales.
