Somehow we’re halfway through 2020 already. Although it feels like life slowed down in the first part of the year, at the same time it’s also flown by. The start of winter has felt like a combination of freezing mornings evolving into beautifully sunny afternoons, and grey, misty days. This is what’s been making me smile this month…
Swing time
Paul’s co-ordination and confidence seems to have come along in leaps and bounds recently. He’s exploring constantly, starting the semblance of waving and has discovered the joy of ‘swinging’. I wasn’t really sure how’d he react the first time I popped him into the baby swing at our local park, but as soon as he started swaying, a huge open-mouthed grin emerged on his face. The swings are now a regular stop on our afternoon walks and I just love watching his little eyes open wide with joy as we have a play. There are some really great parks and playgrounds around the city and I can’t wait to explore a few more of them with Paul.
Going out with friends
COVID-19 restrictions have eased significantly over the last month or so. While life isn’t completely back to how it was before COVID, there’s certainly more of a sense of ease about. It’s been so nice to be able to catch up with friends face-to-face, in public places like cafés and restaurants. To socialise somewhere other than home; and wear ‘normal’ clothes again, as opposed to the cosy loungewear that became the uniform of the last few months. I’ve also noticed how happy workers in the retail and hospitality sectors are – it must of been a very trying and stressful time for them, and their enthusiasm at being back at work is contagious. Everyone wants to chat, more people seem to be smiling and it’s creating a wonderfully happy environment to be apart of.
New bedding
I’ve been lusting over linen bedding for months, but with Adam’s business taking an initial hit when the lockdown began and me being on maternity leave, it felt frivolous to even be considering such a purchase. By pure luck I happened to stumble across some heavily marked down duvet sets the other day, so after checking them out in person and knowing the household budget isn’t as tight as it once was, I decided to take the plunge and buy a set. The linen is beautifully soft and a striking navy colour, which works in well with the rest of decor in our bedroom. It feels so luxurious to pull up the duvet at night and I adore the softly creased look linen has. I’d love a set of linen sheets too, so I’m keeping my eyes peeled for another bargain buy.
What’s been making you happy this month?
Have a wonderful week.
