February

February

February. The shortest month of the year. The summer’s end is near and after a particularly sticky few months, I feel ready to wave goodbye to the sun-bleached landscape, the airy cotton dresses and the constant hum of the air-conditioning. This month seems to have hit me at full force. There’ve been some particularly busy days at work, what feels like an uptick in toddler tantrums, and a late summer cold. Add to that, the devastating scenes coming out of Ukraine and the inundation happening on parts of Australia’s east coast, and I feel like I’m somewhat limping towards the end of this month, and season.

But despite that frenetic energy at times, there have also been moments of still and peace – and of new discoveries.

This is what’s caught my eye in February…

What’s been making me happy: November

What’s been making me happy: November

Eleven months of the year down, summer is nigh, yet this last month has felt more autumnal than anything. It’s been a cool and wet spring, and despite Christmas now being just a few weeks away, because of the weather it still feels like we’ve got months to go. Despite that, I’m pretty organised for the festive season but I just don’t feel all that ‘Christmassy’ yet.

This month we’ve also seen COVID vaccination rates climb higher and higher in New South Wales, but the emergence of this new variant in the last few days brings with it a sense of anxiousness about what might be to come.

So all in all, a slightly strange month, but one that’s also brought with it some very lovely moment. This is what’s been making me smile this month…

Something to share: the spring edit

Something to share: the spring edit

Despite and wet and frankly quite chilly weekend, we are halfway through spring in the southern hemisphere. The light filled evenings are getting longer, the open toed shoes are back in rotation and I’m generally spending more and more time outside.

Over the last little while a few items have helped ground that sense of a new season, so I thought I’d share with you what’s been helping me get into a spring state of mind…

Springtime slowdown

Springtime slowdown

This isn’t the post I intended on writing this week, but sometimes you’ve got to toss out your expectations and just go with the flow.

The last few days have been a wonderful mixture of quality family time, restorative solo time and the hours have melted into days and suddenly the weekend has come to an end . I just simply ran out of time to pull together what I had planned for this week’s post. I was initially beating myself up for not setting aside writing time, but you know what, in the end it doesn’t really matter – I had a lovely, relaxed weekend and it was just what I needed.

Have a wonderful week and I’ll catch you next Monday.

What’s been making me happy: October

What’s been making me happy: October

Here we are, 10 months of the year down. It’s mid-spring, but to be honest it doesn’t actually feel spring’s begun. It just feels like winter’s been exceptionally long this year. Lucky I like coats and jumpers ;). This month seems to flying by. Perhaps it’s because we’re nearing the end of what’s been another topsy-turvy COVID dominated year, perhaps it’s just been because these last few weeks have busy for both Adam and I.

Needless to say though, there are always bright sparks amongst it all. This is what’s been making me smile this month…

What’s making me happy: September

What’s making me happy: September

Well here we are at the three-quarter mark. It’s been a funny old year. At times it’s felt like the ‘before’ with mask-free mingling and interstate holidays, but often, particularly in the last little while, the uncertainty and worry that dominates our COVID era life has been omnipresent.

Still a new season is upon us, and with that brings hope and light. In recent weeks there have been beautiful reunions with friends, great achievements by loved ones and a newfound appreciation of small-talk with strangers.

This is what’s been making me smile this month…

What’s making me happy: August

What’s making me happy: August

August has turned into quite a month. It started with catch-ups with friends and exploring local parks. It’s ending with working from home and shopping for essentials only. The one week lockdown that was recently announced for regional New South Wales has turned into two and it’s anyone’s guess as to when restrictions will be lifted.

Despite the recent onslaught of statistics and information relating to this latest COVID outbreak on Australian’s eastern seaboard, I’m still finding little joys in the every day. Now more than ever, it feels like that’s important and should be celebrated.

This is what’s been making me smile this month…

What’s been making me happy: July

What’s been making me happy: July

Midwinter is upon us and it certainly feels like it. This month has been damp, cold and over the last few weeks the COVID situation in New South Wales feels like it’s gone from bad to worse. Deepest, darkest winter is certainly living up to expectations. On the flipside, the rain’s been good for the garden and local farmers; there’s been ample time for snuggly stories with Paul; and I’ve been able to wear my favourite jumpers on repeat. So there’s that – and a few other things too.

This is what’s been making me smile this month…
