The evening water

Daylight saving or ‘summer time’ arrived in our part of Australia the other week and with it came the start of gloriously long, light evenings.

It’s given me a renewed energy for the warm weather ahead and instead of coming home from work feeling tired and ready to hunker down for the evening,  I find myself wanting to potter about and get little jobs done, so they’re not eating into my precious days off.

One job though, I’m finding less of a chore and more of a wonderful little ritual…

My meditation experiment

I’ve been trying really hard this year to live a little more thoughtfully.   To separate work time from down time, to notice the little joys of the everyday and to care for myself and those I love a little better.

Despite my intentions, I’ve still found myself overwhelmed on days – stressed about work, finances, family and planning a wedding abroad. So, the other day I thought I’d try something new – daily meditation…

The 20 minute rule

The other day I stumbled across an article that got me thinking.  The 20 minute rule is essentially about dealing with the little setbacks in your life.  Something doesn’t go to plan – you’ve got 20 minutes to get upset/angry/whiny about it all, then you move on.

In a strange twist of fate, a few hours after reading about the rule, I myself received some news that gave me a little wobble…

The healing power of tea

The healing power of tea

The other week I found myself in the unenviable position of not being able to ‘switch off’.

I’d had an exhausting day at work, both emotionally and mentally, and I was still digesting some heartbreaking news involving some friends in the U.K.

My mind just wouldn’t shut down.  I couldn’t concentrate, I felt twitchy and knew I needed to eat, but didn’t feel hungry.  After an evening of TLC by wonderful fiancé and a deep, uninterrupted sleep I felt 100 times better.

So starting from last weekend, I’ve been trying really hard to look after my soul and I’ve found one thing that’s helped me…
