Wagga Wagga to Worcestershire & back again
Hello 2018!
It’s a new year and with it comes new goals, expectations and plans. For me it’ll be about readjusting to life after a year abroad, preparing for my upcoming nuptials, creating a home that reflects both my fiancé and I, and discovering and revisiting new and old places in south-western New South Wales.
It’s been just over a week since I arrived back in Australia and wow has that time flown by!
It’s been a whirlwind of jetlag, coping with southern hemisphere heat again and unpacking the house Adam and I left behind in Wagga Wagga back in October 2016…

I’ve so enjoyed sharing life in England with you over 2017 and 2018 is already shaping up to be a very memorable one (11 months until the wedding)!

For the majority of the year, Adam and I talked about doing a big road trip through northern Scotland. I’d developed a real soft spot for the country during my first visit to the U.K. in 2010 and Adam had seen glimpses of it through numerous work trips, but had never had the opportunity to explore it properly.
We managed quite a few trips north (see here and here) but never into the Highlands where we longed to go. Adam had a huge desire to give sleeping in our beloved Volvo XC70, Bjorn, a go so in late November we packed up the car and headed north.
Earlier this month Adam and I had a flying visit to London. Up one afternoon, back the next. We’d both been invited to a very special show, at the beautiful Aldwych Theatre…
Over one week Adam and I went on a tour around Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire scouting for potential venues for our wedding.
On one particularly chilly morning we found ourselves in the charming Cotswold village of Bibury.
We took a walk around and both fell a little love with this ridiculously cute place…
This year I’m going to be lucky enough to enjoy Christmas with two families, in two countries, in two hemispheres. December the 25th will be spent in Wagga Wagga, NSW, Australia – Adam and I will be in our old home and we’ll share a festive meal with some of his distant family that live in town.
Our English family wanted to celebrate with us though before we flew back to Australia, so on December 3rd we had ‘early Christmas’…
To me, the Snæfellnes Peninsula on the west coast of Iceland felt like the set for a post-apocalyptic western movie. Vast open plains in rich browns and reds dotted with mountains dusted with snow, that from a distance resembled Viennetta ice cream. A robot on a horse with a rifle slung across his back could’ve cantered past me and I wouldn’t have thought it looked out of place at all…
Why are goodbyes so darn hard? In a few days time Adam and I will fly out of the U.K. and the last week or so has been a blur of wonderful catch-ups, meals and hang-outs with our England based friends and family…
Driving into Iceland’s ‘northern capital’ Akureyri in November is like arriving at some sort of fantastical winter wonderland.
Here, a small city sits on the shores of fjord surrounded by snow capped mountains. There are children in puffy onesie snow suits and mittens looking like little marshmallows, red heart traffic lights and decidedly Scandinavian homes all boxy with white rimmed windows and colourful exteriors.
It’s a little bit lovely…
