Summer skies

Sunset over the Malvern Hills, Worcestershire, England.

The other evening I was laying in bed reading when the colour of the sky outside of my bedroom window caught my eye.

I glanced up towards the Malvern Hills and saw the most beautiful pastel coloured sky…

I snapped a picture and wandered on into the bathroom to brush my teeth.

By the time I returned and stuck my head out of the window again, the sky and changed dramatically, so I took another picture.

What proceeded over the next five minutes or so was one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing.

Pinks, purples, yellows and oranges.  It was like a magical rainbow had attached itself to the air above the hills.

I sent pictures to Adam (who was still working abroad), to my family (who were still counting down the days till their holiday in the U.K.) and my best friend in Tasmania.  It was one of those ‘I’m by myself but something amazing is happening and I have to share it’ moments.

Once the sky had darkened and the colours had dissolved I sat in bed thinking about the wonderful sight I’d just taken in. While I’d shared it with my nearest and dearest, I’d still witnessed it by myself. That utter awe I’d experienced was something only I could feel, and that felt nice. It was a wonderful moment in time that I got to have all to myself.

It was a reminder that although it’s great to share good things, it’s also great to be selfish and occasionally enjoy them by yourself.

Have a wonderful Monday. x
