This weekend just gone has been a tough one for many people in Australia. COVID infection rates are on the rise again, there’s been new lockdowns announced and restrictions affecting day-to-day living are back. The situation is evolving rapidly and perhaps that, combined with the fact that it’s been chilly, wet and dark for a few days has got me craving comfort food.

Comfort food is highly personal. For some it might be sweet,but for me it’s savoury and specifically in the form of a potato. Yes, the humble spud whether it be mashed, roasted, in the form of a hot chip or a crunchy crisp, makes my heart sing.

In recent years the jacket potato has triumphantly made its way to near top of my potato products line-up. For years I was of the understanding a jacket potato was any potato in its skin, generally boiled, and then often cut open and served with sour cream, bacon and spring onions. Then I met Adam and he introduced me to jacket potatoes of the English variety and I’ve been a convert ever since…

The lentils to cure your lurgy

The dreaded winter lurgy arrived in our household the other week, and while Adam has now got past the worst of his aches and sniffles, I’m still struggling.

There’s nothing worse than feeling less than 100 per cent, particularly when it feels like the world around you is currently operating at 120 per cent.

Although I often go off my food when I’m poorly, I know how important it is to keep on fuelling my body so it can fight off the nasties inside.

And that’s where my lentils come to the rescue…

The Sunday cook-up

Ever since I got back from Sydney I feel like I haven’t quite got back into a routine.  My working hours were all over the place this last week and it left me feeling frazzled, unorganised and like I hadn’t achieved anything. The crazy timetable meant I wasn’t feeding my body like I should, and as a result I felt exhausted and under the weather.

I wanted to start this week afresh, so over the weekend Adam and I decided we’d do a big cook-up.  We wanted the fridge and freezer full of hearty, nutritious meals, to make those mid-week dinners just a little bit easier…
