The week that was

It’s been a rather quiet seven days for me, as I stepped away from the normal routine to care for Paul who was struck down last week with a combination of viral and bacterial infections. As the week went on though the cheery, cheeky toddler returned and I tried to make the most of the one-on-one time we had. It’s been a week of glorious weather, of subdued pottering and of heightened perception of the world around me.

What’s been making me happy: April

April is possibly my favourite month of year, mainly on account of the weather. The mornings are now brisk, sometimes shrouded in light fog, but the days are clear and bright, and by mid afternoon gloriously warm. The countryside is green, the deciduous trees around town are starting to colour and there’s often the scent of wood smoke in the late afternoon, as people stoke their fires ready for the evening ahead. The temperatures, the vistas, the scents – it all make me feel incredibly content.

What’s making me happy: April

What’s making me happy: April

April has unsurprisingly been quiet.  As the days become shorter and the weather cooler, Adam, Paul and myself have started to settle into our new routines.  Even though this month has had its fair share of grey days, I’m thankful that our house has lots of large windows that let the light in.  Being able to look out at the sky and see the rolling hills in the very far distance provides comfort to me – a visual reminder that there is a world beyond our house and soon we’ll be able to go explore it once more.  In the meantime, this is what’s made me smile these last few weeks…

I’ve always loved the month of April for its transitional quality – in Australia it generally means the arrival of cooler mornings and the first signs of autumn.  When we were living in England it meant longer evenings and spring blossoms.  This month though, this has been what’s making me happy…
