Dinner, drinks and little ones

Dinner, drinks and little ones

While Adam and I don’t have any children of our own yet, we know plenty of people with little ones of varying ages.

The first time we had friends over with youngsters I briefly panicked, realising we didn’t have much in the way to keep the kids entertained while the adults enjoyed food, wine and conversation.

Although most of our parent friends bring a few entertainment items with them, I still like to make our youngest guests feel at home. So over the last few months I’ve been trying to make sure whenever we have dinner party, there are a few little goodies about to ensure every member of the family has a good night…

Local life: A Sunday at The Sir George

Local life: A Sunday at The Sir George

For many years, the little town of Jugiong has been a favourite rest stop of mine on the Hume Highway.  Roughly half way between Wagga Wagga and Canberra, I often treat myself to a coffee and a browse around Long Track Pantry, en route to visit my brother, who lives in the A.C.T.

Last year through Instagram I discovered the old pub a few doors up from Long Track was being renovated. Living in Worcestershire at the time made it a little hard to visit, but as soon as Adam and I returned from England, The Sir George, was added to my list of places to explore.

A couple of weekends ago, Adam and I decided to organise a rendezvous with my brother in Jugiong for Sunday lunch so we could check out The Sir George for ourselves…

The Sunday cook-up

The Sunday cook-up

Ever since I got back from Sydney I feel like I haven’t quite got back into a routine.  My working hours were all over the place this last week and it left me feeling frazzled, unorganised and like I hadn’t achieved anything. The crazy timetable meant I wasn’t feeding my body like I should, and as a result I felt exhausted and under the weather.

I wanted to start this week afresh, so over the weekend Adam and I decided we’d do a big cook-up.  We wanted the fridge and freezer full of hearty, nutritious meals, to make those mid-week dinners just a little bit easier…

Spice Alley

Spice Alley

One of the best things about visiting the city is discovering new places.  I love how each neighbourhood has its own personality and with that a unique set of eateries, shops and inhabitants.

When I was in Sydney last week, I walked down a street in the suburb of Chippendale and then followed a series of signs painted on the ground pointing me in the direction of a place called Spice Alley…

A table for one

A table for one

I’ve been in Sydney this week for work and while I’ve loved the hustle and bustle of the city for a few days I’m looking forward to getting home and waking to the sound of birdsong, rather than traffic.

Whenever I travel for work I often cocoon myself in the comfort of my hotel, preferring to get meals to go, or room service.  This trip I’ve had particularly unsociable working hours, so instead of vegging out in my room I’ve been trying to get out during my downtime to really appreciate the pleasure of a ‘table for one’…

An education in wine

An education in wine

Last month during Wagga Wagga’s annual food and wine festival, Adam and I ran into our old friend DJ, a sommelier we’d gotten to know before moving to England.

She made us promise that we’d come out and visit her at her new job, at the winery at our local university -living in Australia’s food bowl has its perks ;).

So one afternoon a few weeks back we went back to school for an education in wine…

Mini break, maximum value

Mini break, maximum value

While I love the excitement about planning a long holiday months in advance, there’s also something quite thrilling about an impromptu get away – even if it’s for a few days.

One day last week, Adam and I made the snap decision to head for Canberra for the weekend. So on Friday after we’d both finished work for the week, we threw a few clothes in a bag, jumped in the car and drove east…

The easy Easter

The easy Easter

I love the Easter break. In my family it’s always been about hiding away for a few days at home to take it easy, eat good food, indulge a little and enjoy the start of cool nights and gloriously comfortable days.

Although I returned to the office this morning, to have three days off in a row was luxurious.  I’ve been starting work at 5:30am which means a before 5:00am alarm, so I currently consider sleeping past 6:00am as a ‘lie-in’!

Adam and I can’t really remember the last time we had a few days to do as much or as little as we wanted. Here’s a peak of what we got up to…

Food, wine & friends: an autumn afternoon

Food, wine & friends: an autumn afternoon

Every March, nestled around the banks of the Wollundry Lagoon in the centre of the city, Wagga Wagga plays host to an annual food and wine festival.

It’s always been a regular on my social calendar and this year I was thrilled to be able to introduce Adam to a ‘Wagga’ event that I’d always enjoyed…
