Adam and I are off on a little holiday to Brisbane, Queensland in a few days time and we both can’t wait. It’s only for a few days, but we’re very much looking forward to some downtime by a pool and catching up with friends and family – some of whom we haven’t seen since we set off for England in 2016.
As with all my mini-breaks, I’ll be keeping my luggage to a minimum…
Our trip will consist of a car drive to Canberra, a night there with my brother, and then four nights in Brisbane. Unlike so many of our other holidays, we plan on keeping the agenda very slow. A few lunches and dinners out, but this week is about taking it easy – reading, napping and swimming. Weather is looking like a mix of sunshine and showers, with daytime temperatures between 29 and 30 degrees Celsius. Keeping that in mind, I’ve kept my packing list lean, light and casual. It’s a 15 piece capsule focusing on a colour palette of black, white, navy and khaki. As always everything I pack will be able to mixed and matched.
Here’s what I plan on packing:
Tops
1 x black and white stripe shell
1 x black sleeveless shell
3 x t-shirts (navy, white, grey)
Bottoms
1 x black linen wide leg trousers
1 x khaki cotton trousers
1 x light denim boyfriend jeans
Dresses
1 x midi black and green sundress
1 x navy sleeveless t-shirt dress
Other
1 x black and white strip one-piece swim suit
1 x black swim shorts
1 x wide brim straw hat
1 x black and tan sandals
1 x dark grey flip flops
Not included of course is underwear, pyjamas and toiletries.
I’m confident that mix will allow me to be comfortable enough on travel days, smart enough for a meal out and relaxed enough for the rest of our lazy time.

Hi Melinda, I have just read The Invitation by Brenda Alexandra. She is an Australian writer, in fact I think I read that she lives in Queensland these days. I had never read one of her books before and The Invitation was a gift. I wasn’t sure I was going to like it to be honest but I couldn’t put it down, it was brilliant. Well recommended!

I can recommend three very good books,
The Owl Killers by Karen Maitland very strong female leads set against historical facts in medieval England.
Good People by Marcus Sakey, contemporary drama to a young married couple who have a windfall, that wasn’t quite legal and the ramifications of their decisions.
Lastly a murder/court room drama, Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult with characters drawn from the Amish sect faced with a modern crime. An oldie, but a good read over a few days.
