How to choose the right workout for you

How to choose the right workout for you

After an almost 18 month hiatus, I returned to the gym last week and boy, did it feel good!

I’d been a regular gym goer in the years leading up to my move to England, but I decided to forgo that part of my weekly routine while I was abroad as I didn’t have the same level of disposable income as I’d had previously and was planning to travel frequently.

I decided to use that break away to take a look at my exercise philosophy and work out what was going to fit in best with lifestyle…

The travelling wardrobe, at home

The travelling wardrobe, at home

When Adam and I moved to the U.K. I took with me a carefully curated capsule wardrobe, which I hoped would provide me with a solid sartorial base for the months ahead.  It served me remarkably well and apart from a few purchases for work, weather and special occasion purposes, I didn’t deviate far from my ‘travelling wardrobe’.

I’ve been back in Australia a little over a month now and I’ve been a surprised at what I’ve been reaching for time and time again in my wardrobe…

The community garden

The community garden

Up until the last decade or so the ‘community garden’ was a concept that was a little unheard of.  Sure the premise was easy enough to understand but communal garden beds seemed to be the stuff of hippy towns on the coast or progressive towns in far flung places.  Now they’re everywhere and to be honest it’s really, really nice.

The other weekend I had the pleasure of spending a few hours in Wagga Wagga’s community garden – a place I’d driven past dozen of times but never found the time to visit…

Pinotage and peaks

Pinotage and peaks

South Africa’s wine country in the Western Cape is quite simply breath-taking.  Not only is the scenery visually stunning but the towns in this beautiful part of the country look like something out a magazine, full of boutique shops and crush-worthy restaurants and sublime wineries.  Adam and I enjoyed a blissful few days exploring the area around Stellenbosch and Franschhoek and loved it so much, we’re already thinking about returning…

Bush galore

Bush galore

The Great British institution of going for a ‘Sunday walk’ was one of those cultural norms that I wholeheartedly embraced when I was living in England. If you’ve been around here for a while, you’ll know I’m an avid fan of a good old ramble and since I’ve returned to Australia, it’s something I’ve been meaning to continue.

Wagga Wagga was blessed with an exceptionally mild summer’s weekend not that long ago, so Adam and I decided to take advantage of the sub 30 degree celsius weather and go for a walk…

Welcome to the Western Cape

Welcome to the Western Cape

After Adam and I left England we didn’t fly straight back to Australia.  We took a detour via South Africa so we could attend the wedding of some friends – another international couple. Although Nick and Christel live near Oxford, they chose South Africa (Christel’s home country) to celebrate their nuptials.

In the days afterward, the newlyweds graciously played tour guides, showing us the Western Cape – a truly spectacular part of the continent…

Hiding from the heat

Hiding from the heat

It’s been an absolute scorcher in south-eastern Australia over the last few days. Wagga Wagga hit 40 + degrees on both Saturday and Sunday.  I haven’t experienced that sort of warmth since the summer of 2015/2016, so I really felt it!

It always amazes me that while one part of the world can be experiencing extreme heat, others can be gripped in the midst of extreme cold (east cold of the United States and Canada, I’m thinking of you!) In the days leading up to the weekend my Instagram feed was full of northern hemisphere dwellers preparing for a cozy weekend.

While they were channelling hygge in the traditional sense, I thought I’d go about creating ‘summer hygge’…
