Food, wine & friends: an autumn afternoon

Tree set against a bright sun and cloudy sky.

Every March, nestled around the banks of the Wollundry Lagoon in the centre of the city, Wagga Wagga plays host to an annual food and wine festival.

It’s always been a regular on my social calendar and this year I was thrilled to be able to introduce Adam to a ‘Wagga’ event that I’d always enjoyed…

In previous years I’d always been to the festival in the late afternoon and early evening but this time around we wandered in mid afternoon.   It was hot and steamy and within minutes of arriving we ran into friends, Duncan and Emily, who we hadn’t seen since arriving back in Australia.

Over a glass or two of Duncan’s Pinot Noir (which is grown on his family’s farm in Tasmania) we caught up and made plans to meet up again over Easter.

We had a leisurely mooch around the festival site, running into more friends, sipping more wine and having a lovely picnic on the grass under the shade of trees.

ouple sat on grass eating Turkish gozleme and drinking red wine.

We feasted on Asian inspired duck and pork pancakes, Turkish gözleme and a lemon meringue tart made by a very talented local baker.

We people watched, listened to live music and just enjoyed having a few hours where we didn’t have to be anywhere or do anything.   It was a perfect, lazy Saturday afternoon.

Satisfied and slightly sleepy after a few hours in the sun, we made our way home again where the kettle was boiled, tea was brewed and an evening was spent snuggled up on the couch.

Hello autumn, I’m so glad you’ve finally arrived.

Have a wonderful week. x
